Thematic description and context:

Spolok svätého Vojtecha (skratka SSV) v Trnave je kultúrny a vydavateľský rímskokatolícky spolok. Dnes je známy najmä vydávaním duchovnej literatúry.

Založili ho roku 1870 z iniciatívy Andreja Radlinského ako pôvodne vydavateľský spolok na šírenie slovenskej rímskokatolíckej literatúry. Vydával učebnice, Katolícke noviny, Literárne listy, kalendáre a inú náboženskú literatúru. Mal tisícky členov. V roku 1913 – 1926 preložil celú Bibliu do modernej slovenčiny. V roku 1937 vydal Jednotný katolícky spevník. Za komunizmu (1949 a 1953) bol transformovaný na „účelové zariadenie rímskokatolíckej cirkvi“ a bol pod veľmi prísnou kontrolou štátu. V roku 1990 začal opäť fungovať ako spolok.
