Ján Nepomucký (1350 Pomuk pri Plzni - 20. 3. 1393 Praha ) patrí k najznámejším svätcom na území Čiech, kde ho uctievajú ako patróna zeme a ochrancu riek. Do školy chodil v Žatci a v Prahe, na univerzitu v Padove, kde v roku 1387 získal doktorát cirkevných práv. Od roku 1373 bol kazateľom v Chráme Panny Márie (Týnsky chrám na Staromestskom námestí) v Prahe a neskôr v chráme sv. Havla na Vyšehrade. Syn Karola IV. Václav mal manželku Žofiu, ktorej sa stal Ján Nepomucký spovedníkom. Podľa legendy za to, že nechcel kráľovi prezradiť obsah spovedí kráľovnej, dal ho spútaného hodiť z Karlovho mosta do Vltavy, kde sa utopil.
